Setiechinopsis mirabilis

This is a tiny columnar cactus that only gets about 6” tall. In summer, flowers that are longer than the plant emerge—they are white, night-blooming, with long necks. They are intensely aromatic. This plant is probably moth pollinated.

Grow this plant in a container with well-drained cactus soil, in filtered sun. Moderate water in the summer while it is growing, keep drier in winter. Hardy into the mid 20s °F. Plants will be more purple in winter.

Tepals end in a thin point, as do the scales on the receptacle; hence the name "Seti-echinopsis", i.e., "Echinopsis with bristles". The species name, mirabilis, means “wonderful to look at”.

The species is native to Argentina and grows on the edges of salinas and in monte shrublands, often under shrubs in flat prairies up to the base of mountains.
