Tufted perennial bunchgrass reaching about 2’ tall. Plants flower August through October.

Full to part sun. Best on irrigation.

Bouteloua named for brothers Claudio (1774-1842) and Esteban (1776-1813) Boutelou Agraz, Spanish botanists and horticulturalists; chondrosioides means like the genus Chondrosium. There are 57 species of Bouteloua found only in the Americas, with most diversity centered in the southwestern United States.

Found on dry rocky slopes and rolling desert grassland with fine-textured soils from 2,500-6,000 ft. in southeastern Arizona to western Texas and south to Costa Rica.
